The reference application software, Install n Go is available from u-Nav Microelectronics, which enables integration of host based GPS navigation software. The Install n Go software is based on u-Nav’s Orion RX2 high sensitivity GPS receiver.

The Install n Go startup operation and user interface would be easily customized to fit the needs of different applications. The reference software is demonstrated on a standard handheld device, which is running Windows PocketPC Operating System.

According to says Peter Benschop, u-Nav Director of Worldwide software, the new Install n Go software eliminates the complexity of device driver development and modifies the kernel level to minimize the integration effort of high performance GPS host based solution. It has additional GPS software to implement a fully functional cost optimized 20-channel GPS receiver with sensitivity levels of -160dBm.

The new software is featured with Windows CE host application program, which initializes the Orion RX2 GPS hardware. It also manages the fully ported Hosted Orion RX2 navigation software and also provides a standard NMEX interface for Windows mapping software through an integrated virtual serial communication port.

In addition, the Install n Go is fully compatible with ARM based host processor and also utilizes the standard Windows CE drivers for serial communication to the GPS IC and control lines to the GPS subsystem. When the software is not using GPS functionality, it automatically places the u-Nav Orion RX2 in sleep mode to save power and reduce host memory utilization.
