Wayfinder was recently reported to have signed a definitive agreement with the first Indian mapping portal called MapmyIndia, which is claimed to provide Wayfinder with access to its digital map data covering India. Wayfinder is said to launch the services covering the whole country in conjunction with comprehensive city coverage of 20 major metropolitan areas firstly and by year-end it will cover up more than 150 major cities.
In April alone 5.15m mobile subscribers have been included in India, signifying a sum of 171m subscribers. All the same, Wayfinder is reported to go through some challenges in a nation where the average revenue for each cell phone user (ARPU) is one of the lowest in the globe. The more subscribers Indian wireless operators sign the lower their ARPU is; in the previous Q of 2006 it came down 6.2 per cent to Rs.316, (US$ 7.8).
